Hartford Public Schools stands in solidarity with the people of Jamaica, Haiti, Dominican Republic, and neighboring countries in the path of Hurricane Melissa’s devastation. As a richly diverse and multicultural city, many of us in Hartford Public Schools have deep roots and family connections to the Caribbean region. This is a somber time as we learn about the difficulties and dangers that our loved ones are experiencing.
As was the case with Hurricane Maria in 2017 and Fiona in 2022, we anticipate that some families will seek refuge in Hartford, and we are prepared to welcome them with open arms and multiple resources to overcome this tragedy. If you or your family members need support in this difficult time, please reach out to the Hartford Public Schools Welcome Center at 860-695-8400, or dial 2-1-1 to connect with social services in your area.
Our staff is currently working with community partners to ensure that we can provide our share of relief to those in need. To join us in these collaborative efforts, you may contact 860-695-8400 or email welcomecenter@hartfordschools.org. Further information will be provided as soon as it becomes available.
Excellence in Truth and Service,
Dr. Andraé Townsel
