GPA student interns had an opportunity on Thursday, April 17th to visit the University of Hartford to tour their podcast and TV studios. During their time at the studios, they had a chance to produce a podcast and TV broadcast and played a variety of roles in both of these productions including anchor, producer, director, camera director, and more. Students toured the campus of UHART and had lunch in the student dining hall where they were visited by the dean and associate deans of the Arts and Science college to have a Q&A session about UHART admission, activities, and academics. The Honorable Thomas O. Farrish from the U.S. District Court visited GPA to discuss civil and criminal justice system, careers in the judiciary branch, and opportunities for high school students offered by the U.S. District Court on April 14th, 2025. Students were engaged and prepared with many questions to ask Judge Farrish. GPA has started a partnership with the United States District Court - District of Connecticut to provide more opportunities and exploration for students in the judicial branch.

GPA students were invited to attend a field trip to the YouMedia program at the Downtown Hartford Public Library branch on Monday, April 21st. On the trip they were able to tour the new facility, explore the YouMedia teen programs, and meet the library staff.

A reminder that our students in grades 9-11 will take the PSATs and SAT on Wednesday, March 12th, 2025. 9th and 10th Graders will take the PSATs and 11th Graders will take the SAT. Students need to be on time for school at 7:30am to start the test on time. We will then have an early dismissal at 11:30am. This is a B Day. Great Path Academy is proud to partner with the Hartford Public Library! On Monday, February 24th we held a Library Day in the GPA Commons from 10am-12pm. Representatives from the Hartford Public Library shared information about their programs and how to access them. Some of the stations included: Getting Started With your Library Card, general library services and volunteer opportunities, virtual reality, PRIDE, multi language learner services, music production, financial literacy, anime, driving rig, and much more. All students and staff were able to participate and visit all of the information tables to get more connected with the great resources the Hartford Public Library has to offer. Last week Dr. Fitzgerald and Mr. de Oliveira attended the Middle College National Consortium Winter Leadership Conference. They had a chance to participate in a variety of learning sessions around building inclusive learning communities and connecting with over 25 middle college high schools around the country. Mr. de Oliveira presented several roundtables on his classroom project "Creating a Mobile App For Your Town!" He did an excellent job showcasing a project from Great Path and demonstrating learning that is taking place at our school. A special thank you to Mr. de Oliveira for his presentation and engagement connecting with middle college high school teachers and staff around the country. GPA is glad to be a part of this robust organization.

Please Welcome Mr. Jerome Strums to Great Path Academy as our Community Partner Liaison! He was born and raised in Windsor, CT. He graduated from Windsor High School in 2005 and then went on to attend Delaware State University to play football. He graduated from Delaware State University in 2010 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management. After college, he played 3 years of Professional Arena Football and had a number of Private workouts with teams in the Canadian Football League (CFL). He has been a part of the Hartford School District for the last 11 years doing a number of roles. He is now currently the Community Partner Liaison (Dual Enrollment Counselor) here at Great Path Academy. His favorite book is The Alchemist.  A Fun Fact about him is that he's a Foodie and was being looked at by the Baltimore Ravens and the New York Jets in the NFL. He also coaches College Football at Southern Connecticut State University.   Welcome Mr. Strums!

Welcome Mr. Maciuba to Great Path Academy as our new English teacher. Mr. Maciuba is a recent alumnus of the UConn Neag School of Education's TCPCG program, which he graduated from with a Master of Arts degree in Curriculum and Instruction and his education certification in English Language Arts. This is his first year teaching full-time. His favorite novel is Blood Meridian; or, The Evening Redness in the West by Cormac McCarthy. Mr. Maciuba considers himself an avid outdoorsman and a hobbyist conservationist, and enjoys a wide array of activities so long as it includes time well spent in nature.
