From the Hartford Courant: Three Hartford magnet schools get prestigious honor
Three Hartford magnet schools have been named among the top in the country.
Breakthrough Magnet School South, Hartford Magnet Trinity College Academy, and Great Path Academy have all been named National Merit Schools of Distinction by the Magnet Schools of America, a national association for magnet and theme-based schools.
MSA’s National Merit Awards program honors the top magnet schools in the country. The award recognizes schools that demonstrate commitment to high academic standards, curriculum innovation, successful desegregation and diversity efforts, and consistent delivery of high quality educational services to all stakeholders, according to a press release from the district.
This is the second year in a row that Hartford Magnet Trinity College Academy and Breakthrough Magnet School South earned the title.
“This award celebrates the hard work of our incredible faculty, staff, families, and partners who contribute to the success of our schools,” Hartford Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Leslie Torres-Rodriguez said. “I’m deeply appreciative of their commitment to providing high-quality instruction, enriching opportunities, and welcoming environments so all students can thrive.”
The schools will be recognized during an awards ceremony held at Magnet Schools of America’s National Conference in April.

We are very proud to announce that the Magnet Schools of America has awarded Great Path Academy a 2024 National Merit School of Distinction Award. The Magnet School of America Merit Awards recognize member magnet schools and programs that demonstrate an exemplary commitment to academic standards, curriculum innovation, desegregation/diversity efforts, specialized teaching staff, and parent and community involvement.
Our unique partnerships focused on our middle college theme with Manchester Community College and ReadyCT help us create and deliver innovative programs for our students to prepare them for their post secondary goals in college and the workforce. We are thankful for our partners and their dedication to student success. Our School Governance Council and Parent Teacher Organization, our two main parent organizations, come together to support activities and governance at Great Path and guide and advise our school. We are a proud member of the Middle College National Consortium that helps us create a fulfilling middle college experience for our students that they may not likely get elsewhere. Thank you to all our staff, students, families, and partners that help Great Path Academy accomplish our goal to be a strong educational program. We look forward to seeing how Great Path Academy can continue to grow and evolve in the future. We are honored to receive the Merit School of Distinction Award from Magnet Schools of America.
